The Plymouth Bay Inn & Suites (Galaxy Motor Lodge for the movie) was transformed into a Hollywood set as film crews descended upon Massachusetts and Kingston to brave the "New England" winter weather to film scenes for the movie, "The Box", starring Cameron Diaz, Frank Langella and James Marsden.
The story is based on the Richard Matheson short story, "Button, Button" which Richard Kelly writer/director of Donnie Darko, first saw on The Twilight Zone in the early 80s and "a story that [he's] been obsessed with since [he] saw it...." "The Box" focuses on an unhappily married couple who are visited by a mysterious stranger. The stranger gives them a mysterious box with a button, it brings you money but someone you don't know dies.
The Production staff worked with the owner of The Plymouth Bay Inn & Suites to prepare the outdoor pool and the interior scenes for filming which began at midnight and ended at dawn for an entire week. The preparation for the filming of the sci-fi thriller began several days before the arrival of the crews, trucks, wardrobe, and all the people behind the scenes who make a film "real."
The excitement still lives on at the "Galaxy Motor Lodge" or as we call ourselves The Plymouth Bay Inn & Suites!!
